The centerpiece of this diet is a cabbage soup that is consumed each day in conjunction with other foods 12. The dieter can expect to lose up to ten pounds in one week. This diet should not be maintained for longer than seven days 2.

How Does The Sacred Heart Diet Work

The meal plan is quite simple. Dieters are required to consume vegetable soup and 7-8 glasses of water every day, along with a specific food group. On day one, participants eat as many fresh fruit as possible, while on day two, only vegetables are allowed with soup and water. Day three combines both vegetables and fruit.

On day four, 2 bananas and 1 glass of skim milk should be added to every meal. These foods should be consumed with soup and plenty of water. Day five re-introduces beef to the menu. You should only consume 10-20 ounces of beef with plenty of vegetables and a single serving of soup for that day. On day six, unlimited amount of beef, vegetables, water and soup can be eaten. Finally, on day seven, the sacred heart diet recommends vegetables, soup, unsweetened juice and a cup of brown rice.

The Sacred Heart diet has not been the subject of any significant scientific studies. Although the name implies that it was created by doctors or other medical professionals, this is probably not the case. The origin of the diet is unknown and many Sacred Heart Hospitals have made statements indicating that they did not create it and do not recommend it.

The United States Department of Agriculture makes recommendations for what healthy children and adults should eat each day in MyPyramid, the updated version of the food guide pyramid. Limitations: Your menu options are severely limited on this diet. It gets very boring, very quickly. If you want to try it again, its recommended that you wait 2 weeks first.

Cooking and shopping: Get out your soup pot. You will need to make the cabbage soup and cook some of the vegetables recommended in the plan. Your shopping list will be very short for the week.

Packaged foods or meals? No.

In-person meetings? No.

Exercise: The cabbage soup diet doesnt include exercise, and working out at high levels isnt a great idea on such a low-calorie diet. Your body just wont have enough gas in the tank for exercise.
