The popularity of gluten-free diets for weight loss is increasing around the world. It is believed that gluten free diet weight loss is real and that a gluten free diet can promote weight loss in a healthy manner. How much of this claim is true? We find out, in this section. When an individual decides to go gluten-free, they have to forego any kind of food with gluten as an ingredient.

It could be sauces, food additives or food staples such as wheat, rye and so on. In most cases, the person can no longer enjoy their bread, most desserts and processed food. Initially, the person loses some amount of weight for cutting these out from their diet, as these food products also happen to be high in calories.

Besides this, when a person resolves to go gluten-free, they have to make a practice of reading food labels before buying anything at the grocers or supermarket. Its a healthy habit to keep and promotes healthy dietary practices. When a person makes an informed choice about what they put inside their body, they are less prone to binge eating or consuming unhealthy food.

Moreover, one has to keep a tab on the portions that they eat. No matter what diet you are on, if you cannot control your portions you will gain weight. Theres really no other alternative to portion control when trying to lose/maintain your weight.

You Could Feel Less Bloated

“When people inquire about giving up dairy, it’s usually because they’re feeling bloated,” says Gans, adding that the culprit is almost always lactose intolerance. People with this condition can experience bloating and gas, plus severe stomach pain, diarrhea, and cramps when they consume dairy products. The reason: lactose intolerant folks don’t produce enough lactase, an enzyme that’s important for breaking down a type of sugar called lactase found in milk products.

However, “not everybody with lactose intolerance needs to 100% remove dairy from their diet,” Gans says. Cutting back on your overall intake, or consuming dairy products along with other foods may be enough to ease symptoms.

If you have a condition that damages the digestive tract, such as Crohn’s disease or celiac disease, you may also get relief from inflammatory bowel disease like symptoms when you cut back on dairy.

Do You Lose Weight On A Gluten And Dairy Free Diet

Not necessarily, as restriction of gluten and dairy doesnt mean a reduction in calories, which is the only real way to lose weight. However, eliminating both may lead to better choices when dining out and less opportunity to eat many popular processed snacks and junk, such as candy bars, greasy chips, bread, fried foods, cake and many desserts.

However, there are many gluten free dairy free snacks and sweets on the market now due to high demand, which are just as bad as their gluten and dairy containing counterparts . So, if youre making the bulk of your meals and snacks consist of these gluten free dairy free processed options, which may be higher in saturated fats, trans fats, sugar, calories and sodium, youre doing yourself a disservice and might even gain weight.

Dairy and gluten can be nutritious when prepared in a healthy way, and the same applies with gluten free dairy free foods. If youre regularly drinking coconut milk in your coffee and using coconut oil as your main oil source when cooking, you might have excess saturated fat intake. Likewise, eating too much animal protein and not enough plants will also increase saturated fat intake and pose a risk for your heart health. Butter isnt the only source of saturated fat: beef, coconut oil and milk and any unhealthy, packaged desserts that meet the gluten free dairy free requirements, but are still bad for you, do as well and in high doses.

As much as I love teaching and sharing this diet and lifestyle stuff with you, Im a big student in it myself. I dont know everything. And I sure do eat donuts once in a while and then regret it. Or eat cheese on something and maybe dont feel bad, but still wish I hadnt eaten it.

The point here is that when you try to stick with any kind of healthy eating plan or specific diet, like a gluten and dairy-free one, its BEYOND EASY to beat yourself up for not being perfect. Or the entire next month, because you slipped up and found yourself feeling terrible or in the bathroom.

Please please please dont do that. Please use every slip up as a learning moment, as an opportunity to say to yourself Oh man, I just did that and maybe it was or wasnt worth it, but I know I feel my best when I eat this way. And then just get back to eating the way that you know makes you feel your best!

Its not complicated. Just eat the foods that make you feel good. Avoid the ones that dont. And when you make a mistake, just get back to feeling good again. The healthiest people arent healthy all the time, so give yourself some grace.

This is because it contains high amounts of the amino acid proline and glutamine, which means that all humans are unable to digest gluten properly!

A gluten-free diet is one that excludes gluten, and therefore, most grains. It is highly recommended for those who suffer from celiac disease or have a gluten intolerance. However, there is no one size fits all and there are a number of different reasons gluten may not be your friend.

Don’t Forget To Exercise

This could be the most important tip of all.

Cutting the wheat and the gluten may help you lose weight more easily, but if you really want to accelerate your efforts, you’re going to need to break a sweat.

Exercise can help you build more muscle and lose fat, and muscle burns more calories, helping you lose even more fat. Don’t view your new gluten-free diet as a replacement for hitting the gymmake time for some healthy physical activities.

Youre Eating More Packaged Foods

Another reason you may be packing on the pounds is that youre eating more packaged foods. Packaged foods are often loaded with sugar and refined grains, and theyre deliciously addictive too.

I definitely fell into the junk food trap.

I felt gluten-deprived, and quickly found myself overcompensating for my loss by stocking up on calorically-dense packaged foods at the grocery store along with delicious cakes and cookies at my local gluten-free bakery.

I finally realized that I was eating more cookies, cakes and donuts than I ever ate before, mainly because I was excited that I could eat them again.

I had to remind myself that just because I could eat them doesnt mean I should eat them, and that the sugar and refined carbohydrates were doing nothing to keep me healthy nor help me maintain a healthy weight.

Every newly diagnosed person with celiac disease should know that just because something is gluten free does not mean its sugar-free or calorie-free. Sugar is naturally gluten free, after all.

These Three Changes Made The Biggest Difference In My Weight

  • I eliminated high sodium foods. People don’t realize how much sodium is added to food. It’s one of the things that makes it really hard to stop eating after just a few bites. High sodium also causes you to retain water, so overall my body felt so much better having way less of it.
  • I started weightlifting. I absolutely love weightlifting. I love seeing and feeling the change and being able to increase my weight as I get stronger. I also enjoy the Stairmaster where I can watch a quick show or listen to some music. Its my me time.
  • I eliminated gluten. For me, I have suffered with binge eating my entire life. Almost every single food that would trigger a binge for me would be gluten-related, such as donuts, pasta, and bread. By eliminating gluten overall, it allowed me to steer clear of binge triggers which made things a lot easier for me. This may not be necessary for everyone, but it works for me.
  • People Kept Asking Me Why I Was On A Diet

What I Eat in A Day TO LOSE WEIGHT! (Gluten Free Dairy Free)

I got really used to explaining to people why I was on a diet. It is sort of surprising that people would ask that question. I explained A1C and that I was working with a dietitian to see if I could improve my numbers by eliminating some items. Yes, it might run in my family. Yes, stress can be a contributing factor. Yes, I exercise regularly. No, weight is not the only factor. No, it is not really any of your business.
