For those with dietary restrictions, the military diet allows substitutions during the 3-day phase, as long as portions match the calorie count.

Aside from swapping foods that may cause allergic reactions, such as peanut butter, substitutions include alternatives for those looking for a gluten-free, lactose-free, vegetarian, or vegan version of the diet.

Yet, the diet does emphasize avoiding substituting orange for grapefruit. Instead, it advises replacing it with a glass of water with 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, which is purported to help alkalinize your body and reduce body fat.

However, research shows that while some foods increase your bodys acid load, your kidneys can excrete the excess acid through urine. Thus, your dietary choices have little effect on your bodys acidity or alkalinity levels .

Whats more, animal-based protein foods such as the ones permitted in the diet are the type of foods that tend to increase your bodys acidic load, making this recommendation a bit contradictory .

Furthermore, theres no evidence supporting the use of baking soda to reduce body fat.

Lastly, proponents of the military diet recommend avoiding artificially sweetened beverages to prevent weight gain. However, evidence on these drinks effects on body weight is mixed (

While some evidence highlights the importance of a calorie deficit over diet quality and vice versa, research shows that successful weight loss relies on a combination of both .

Raw Food Meal Plan Is It Necessary

If you want to go raw for an extended period of time, a raw food meal plan is not necessary for you to follow a raw food lifestyle. Although I sell a 30-day supported raw food meal plan program thats awesome, you may not need one.

However, there are some of us who do well with raw food meal plans, while others honestly have no need for meal plans.

The Backbone Of Your Healthy Meal Plan

For the vast majority of adults, these practical tips should be the backbone of your meal plan:

  • A range of fruits and vegetables
  • Whole grain carbohydrates
  • Fermented foods such as kefir, kimchi, and sauerkraut
  • Unsaturated fats such as extra virgin olive oil, rapeseed oil, avocados, and nuts
  • Two portions of oily fish, such as salmon, per week
  • A handful of nuts and seeds a day
  • Aim for 30g of fiber a day
  • Eat a range of beans and pulses
  • Drink approximately 8 glasses of water a day

Week 2 Diet Plan And Shopping List

I followed a nutritionists meal plan for a week

During the second week, were going to be removing most of the milk byproducts on our carnivore diet.

Well still allow some butter to be used in cooking, but dairy foods like cheese should be gone by now.

We would also suggest that you start experimenting a little with the way you’re eating meat.

For the beef, move to the rare side of cooking as this will preserve high amounts of nutritional values.

The more you cook these, the more of the protein, nutrient, minerals, and vitamins break down.

Well still be keeping a mix of seafood, poultry, pork, lamb, and grass-fed beef, but well add in some organ meat as well.

Some people starting on a carnivore diet may be a bit squeamish about this, but if you look up the nutrients they contain, you might change your mind. These are a few things to consider if you don’t want to try organ meats.

You may also ask your butcher to cut them into slices. We found this helped initially, as it will just look like any other cut of meat.

What Do You Eat On The Mediterranean Diet

Here are the quick basics of what you should be consuming when following the Mediterranean way of eating:

  • Eat MORE plant-based foods Vegetables, whole grains, beans, legumes, herbs, and good extra virgin olive oil. Aim to eat these daily.
  • Eat SOME seafood and omega-3-rich foods Fish , nuts, and seeds. If it works for you, try to eat these 2 to 3 times a week.
  • Eat SOME poultry, eggs, and dairy.
  • Eat LESS red meats and sweets. These should be enjoyed sparingly. And its important to remember that it is not just about the frequency but also the amount. When the craving hits for those baked meatballs or rack of lamb, we eat them, but the plate is still a lot more vegetable-focused. And yes, I always bake baklava and loukoumades for the holidays.
  • Have a glass of red wine once in a while.
  • Avoid highly processed foods.

Week 3 Diet Plan And Shopping List

For the third week of the carnivore diet, were removing all the milk byproducts left, and well slightly increase the shift towards cow’s meat.

Youll notice that there are fewer meals covered by fish and poultry, and well even add in a beef-only day in preparation for next week.

At this stage, you should also be eating your grass-fed beef at least medium-rare to get most of the vitamin, protein, and micronutrient benefits.

You will have cooked many kinds of beef and should be getting used to judging it better.

What you can also do is cut your steaks in half and then cook one part medium-rare and the other medium-well.

One thing you should notice is that there is a lot more flavor to the medium-rare part, even with just salt to season.

We’re also introducing a bit more organ meat into the mix. Eating organ parts is highly beneficial to balance your efforts when on an animal meat carnivore diet, even though they are lower in fat.

From one serving of eating liver or kidney, you can get more nutrient and vitamins, especially Vitamin B12 and Vitamin A, than most plant foods, and it’s more than your daily needs.

Also, the raw liver does contain some Vitamin C. You won’t believe the nutrition these organs can give to the body.

  • Beef Kidney: 8 ounces

For a dementia-fighting dinner, cook up some quinoa and turn it into a stir-fry, sautéing vegetables, leafy greens and beans in olive oil.
